Wildcat Quickies: Malik Monk Edition

Malik Monk leads Cats to victory. UK competing for football recruit. Westbrook posts another triple-double. More.

NCAA Basketball: North Carolina at Kentucky Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

I wanted to make these quickies about the game in general, but Malik Monk played way too well to not have them named after himself. Monk’s 47 points were the most ever scored by a Kentucky freshman. They were also the most ever scored by a Wildcat against a top-10 opponent, and his 8 three-pointers were a career-high for him. With last night’s game, Monk has established himself as Kentucky’s go-to shooter; someone who can (hopefully) provide a spark when others aren’t making jumpers. If he can make 8 threes in all their close games, the team’s three-point shooting struggles will be an issue of the past.
