The Wildcats will take on the Pride at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

The Kentucky Wildcats have been regulars in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn over the last few years, and will travel to New York to take on the Hofstra Pride for a Sunday afternoon tip-off.

Hofstra, from the Colonial Athletic Association, enters the game at 6-4 and was riding a four-game winning streak before falling to St. Bonaventure 81-75 last Tuesday.

The Pride are led by freshman guard Eli Pemberton, who leads the team with a scoring average of just over 15 points per game. Pemberton is a guy that the Wildcats will have to watch, as he is shooting 51 percent from the floor and an even 50 percent from behind the arc.

The Pride also have the leading rebounder in all of Division I Basketball in 6’9 260 lb. junior center Rokas Gustys. The native Lithuanian big man is averaging 13.8 rebounds per game for Hofstra this season, with two games in which he has eclipsed 20 rebounds. Gustys is also averaging a little over nine points per game. The matchup between Gustys and Kentucky’s Bam Adebayo will be one to watch.

This matchup should serve as a tune-up for Kentucky as they prepare for next Saturday’s matchup with North Carolina. The two things to watch in this game, in my opinion are:

  1. The match-up between Bam Adebayo and Rokas Gustys. How does Bam perform against one of the nation’s top rebounders? He needs to hold his own for Kentucky to have success against the Pride.
  2. Keeping Pemberton in check from behind the arc. If Pemberton catches fire, this game could be a lot closer than it should. If he struggles, Kentucky could blow this one open early.

Other than that, it should make for an entertaining Sunday afternoon game before Saturday’s matchup with the Tar Heels in Las Vegas.

Prediction: Kentucky 85, Hofstra 62
