College Football Bowl Projections: Post-Regular Season Edition

New, 1 comment

The college football regular season is over as conference championship weeks is here before bowls are announced next Sunday.

Not only is upsetting the Louisville Cardinals a sweet rivalry win, but it also opens up several new bowl possibilities for the Kentucky Wildcats.

A few other matchups from this past week also played a major factor in Kentucky’s potential bowl destination. Missouri’s victory over Arkansas on Friday night and Georgia Tech’s win over Georgia shifted the bowl dynamics for the Wildcats.

Thanks to Saturday’s win in Louisville, I believe now that Kentucky is firmly in the Group of Six bowls for the SEC, which consist of the Outback Bowl, Texas Bowl, Belk Bowl, Taxslayer Bowl, Music City Bowl, and Liberty Bowl.

Going into the matchup with the Cardinals, Kentucky’s best bowl possibility was likely the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, which is where SB Nation still has the Cats landing.

But the more likely option looked like a trip to the Birmingham Bowl, which is where Campus Insiders still has UK landing.

College Football News is projecting Kentucky to the Belk Bowl to face UNC. NBC Sports also has UK there with Georgia Tech as the opponent.

The Independence Bowl in Shreveport has also been an option, though none of the newest projections have UK landing there.

As for the College Football Playoff projections, Alabama is a lock for the No. 1 seed in the four-team playoff. Clemson is also on track to be the No. 2 seed as long as they beat Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship next Saturday.

The next two teams seemed to be in question heading into the final week. However, all of the major projections have Washington and Ohio State sneaking into the final field. The seeding between those two is different across the various projections, but it’s safe to say those four teams are the favorites to represent the 206-17 College Football Playoff.
