The recruitment of Quade Green will come to an end later this month.
The five-star point guard will made his college ‘decision’ on November 19th, he announced on Twitter Wednesday night:
Committing nov 19— LiL AI (@Q_Green1) November 3, 2016
Green also told Scout.com’s Evan Daniels that the commitment will come at a midnight madness event at his high school.
That's key, because November 9-16 is the early signing period, which means Green would be simply committing and not signing a national letter of intent.
So whatever Green decides in the coming weeks will be his college decision, he won’t be bound to that until the spring signing period.
That also means that if Green commits to, say, Syracuse, that will not prevent John Calipari and Kentucky from being able to keep recruiting him until his signs on the dotted line in the spring.
The Cuse has the momentum right now, but UK is right there with them. Perhaps Green’s decision to not sign shows he ‘thinks’ he’ll be able to make a decision in the coming weeks, but wants to keep his options open just in case.
Saying all this, my guess is Green picks Syracuse, but waits to see if UK lands fellow five-star point guard Trae Young, who is set to decide in December. If Young picks Oklahoma, perhaps Green will then strongly consider UK afterwards, but at this point, I do not think he wants to play at the same school as Young.
That’s been the biggest issue with Green and UK, and you can’t blame him. Getting two five-star point guards to play at the same school is a tough sell, but it’s one Calipari can certainly make at UK and his ‘positionless’ approach.
Then again, maybe he just picks UK now and lets everything else works itself out. The latest 247 Crystal Ball pick is for UK...
