Today is Senior Day at Commonwealth Stadium - a day to celebrate the successes of our outgoing senior class, and to thank them for their service to the Big Blue Nation. I get a little emotional about this every year, but this class - the first recruits of Mark Stoops’ tenure - deserve a special place in our hearts as they chose to be the first group to answer the call “Why not Kentucky? Why not us?”
In alphabetical order, the senior class of 2016:
- FB Will Collins
- TE/FB Tanner Fink
- CB J.D. Harmon
- RB Jojo Kemp
- DB Blake McClain
- Safety Marcus McWilson
- DE Courtney Miggins
- C Zach Myers
- WR Ryan Timmons
- C Jon Toth
- DT Zane Williams
Also in their final game at Commonwealth, the following Wildcats who have chosen to forego their senior year of eligibility:
- G Dylan Greenburg
- G Ramsey Meyers
- WR Alex Montgomery
Thank you, gentlemen, for choosing to wear Kentucky across your chests. Thank you for your work and sacrifice, your sweat and your tears, and most of all for your determination to help make Kentucky Football a program we can be proud of.
And now to the game itself. I don’t like to think of games as sure-fire wins, but this is honestly the closest to one I can remember in recent history. Austin Peay is a fine school, and the fastest growing university in Tennessee, but it is not a football powerhouse. The Governors haven’t won a game since 2014, and they aren’t winning one today either. (When Greg McElroy gives you a 99.99% chance of wining the game, you have to like those odds.)
Of course, with today’s victory comes Kentucky’s first bowl eligibility of the Mark Stoops’ era. I can’t think of a nicer way for the underclassmen to thank their seniors, can you?
Kickoff is at 4:30 EST on the SEC Network. Until the Call, GO BIG BLUE!
