Quade Green decision appears done and he may sign early after all

It looks like Quade Green will sign early. Will it be UK or Syracuse?

USA Basketball

It looks like the Kentucky Wildcats will get a decision on Quade Green soon that will be final.

The original expectation was for the five-star point guard to announce his college decision on Nov. 19th, then wait to sign his national letter of intent until the spring, leaving open the possibility he could decommit and join a different school, depending on how UK and Syracuse are able to land between now and then.

It’s no secret Green wants to be ‘the’ point guard for whoever he commits to, but that may not happen at UK if Trae Young picks the Cats.

Regardless, it looks like Green may actually sign his NLI today and fax it into his new school, but not have it announced until after his decision Saturday. That’s what his high school coach, Carl Arrigale, told the Herald-Leader on Wednesday.

“I don’t think he was sure — even a couple of days ago — if he was going to sign early,” Arrigale said. “Now, I think he’s going to sign the letter. I think he’s got some clarity. He has a final five list, but it’s only between two teams. It’s Kentucky and Syracuse. And I think he has some clarity.”

Arrigale added that Green appears to have made his decision today, which would explain him decision to fax in his NLI before tonight’s deadline to do so. Arrigale also said he sees UK as a great situation for Green to end up at if that’s where he chooses to go.

“I think he knows that the guys at Kentucky aren’t going to be there next year. They’re pretty good,” Arrigale said. “And I think he knows there’s an opportunity there for him to be the next leader of the next group coming in. That’s something that definitely intrigues him, for sure.”

Syracuse looks like the favorite, but it’s close enough that UK being the pick won’t be any surprise.

It does seem odd, or perhaps just a coincidence, that this comes right after Green took in UK’s impressive win over Michigan State, a game dominated by three guards, two of which came to college as point guards.

Maybe Quade finally saw the light and realized he can showcase his talents in college while playing with another point guard.

We will know Saturday night, though if he does sign an NLI today and sends it in, it’s hard to see it not leaking out before then...
