Kentucky Wildcats Morning Quickies: Champions Classic Edition

#2 Kentucky takes on #12 Michigan State tonight in Madison Square Garden.

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen of the Big Blue Nation, and welcome to the Tuesday Morning Quickies.

Today’s top story is, of course, the big game tonight in the Champion’s Classic, where the new-look Wildcats will take on the Michigan State Spartans. After a woeful shooting outing against Canisius, the Wildcats will face a much tougher foe in Michigan State, who have defeated Kentucky in four of the last five meetings between the two schools. The last victory for the Wildcats came back in 2003 in the famous “Basketbowl” in front of a world record 78,129 fans at Detroit’s Ford Field.

Mark Story has a look at the matchups for tonight’s game, and includes the remarkable stat that Tom Izzo has single-handedly denied Kentucky four trips to the Final Four. I knew it was bad, but not that bad.

Anyway, most of the matchups seem to favor the Wildcats, but with young freshman as your water-carriers, you can never feel too confident. It should be a great contest tonight, and I know we are all looking forward to getting some payback on Sparty, even if it’s fairly meaningless at this point in the season.

Tweet of the Morning

Probably should be.
