The Kentucky Wildcats have offered Shai Alexander.
The Class of 2017 guard finally got an offer from John Calipari while the head coach watched Alexander work out on Monday, according to Chris Fisher of the Cats Pause.
Adding to that that, Ben Roberts of the Herald-Leader reports that Alexander and his Hamilton Heights team will play at the Marshall County Hoopfest in Benton next month. This event annually features UK recruits and/or commitments facing off the hardwood, so seeing Alexander already part of it shows how quickly this recruitment had progressed.
It was just a few weeks ago that Alexander began being mentioned as a ‘possible’ UK target in 2017. Now, he’s got an offer and is scheduled to play in Kentucky during his high school season.
I seriously doubt all of this took place over the course of a few weeks. This is starting to look like a recruitment that Calipari was keeping quiet until now, perhaps to keep from dissuading other recruits UK is after in 2017.
Speaking of, John Petty is also playing in the Marshall County Hoopfest, which takes place on on Friday, Dec. 2. Petty will announce a commitment to either UK or Alabama on Nov. 10, and it looks like Bama has the momentum now.
Perhaps it’s no coincidence that, just as UK emerges as the favorite for Alexander, they appear to be losing ground on Petty.
