It looks like another one of the Kentucky Wildcats’ top 2017 targets is coming to Big Blue Madness.
According to Adam Zagoria, Richards will visit UK for the big event before taking official visits with the Arizona Wildcats and Syracuse Orange.
Richards is coming off his official visit to UK, which by all indications went as good as it could have, so seeing he’s ready to come back in just a few weeks later for BBM is a great sign.
"[Kentucky] was cool, I liked it," Richards told Zagoria. "I got to watch two practices and it was pretty fun. I got to talk to talk to all the coaches, they showed a lot of interest in me. It was a fun visit overall."
He added: "I'm going to [Kentucky] Midnight Madness next weekend."
On the official visit, Richards was hosted by UK Kentucky freshman forward Bam Adebayo, but got to spend plenty of time with other Cats.
"Bam was my host player, it was fun but I mostly chilled with Isaiah [Briscoe], Malik Monk and Wenyen Gabriel," Richards said.
Though UK is pushing hard for a commitment form Richards, he says John Calipari and his staff haven’t told the 5-star center what his role will be, as it could change depending on who else joins him in the 2017 class.
“They didn't tell me what my role is; they have to see who commits," Richards said. "They told me who commits there, they will tell their role to."
Still, Richards is a true 5 who probably won’t play much 4 unless UK fails to land Mohamed Bamba and Sacha Killeya-Jones doesn’t come back for his sophomore season.
Even if Isaac Humphries returns, he’s versatile enough to play the 4 for stretches and have Richards at the 5.
Regardless of how that plays out, don’t expect this recruitment to play out in any manner that doesn’t end with Richards picking UK.
