To no surprise, Tremont Waters is not coming to Kentucky.
However, Waters did make a bit of a surprise by picking Georgetown on Wednesday. Waters at one point was viewed as a lock to pick either UK or Indiana, but the Hoyas came on strong late to get his pledge.
A 5-11, 190-pound point guard out of South Kent School in Connecticut, Waters is ranked as the 10th-best point guard and 37th best 2017 prospect by 247 Sports Composite. He holds an offer from Duke, though the Blue Devils has cooled in their pursuit. Indiana, UConn and Kansas have also offered.
Waters announced his decision Wednesday in front of friends and family with three hats sitting on the table: Indiana, Georgetown and Kentucky. UK was at one time a viable option for Waters after he visited in September, but it was a deal where Waters had to take the offer then, or UK was moving on.
Waters opted to hold off and essentially knew then he wasn’t coming to UK, who is now zeroed in on only Trae Young and Quade Green for their 2017 point guards.
As for Waters, he’s now heading to the Big East to play for the Hoyas.
