John Petty cuts list, plans November decision

One of Kentucky’s top targets will be deciding soon.

Five-star shooting guard John Petty has narrowed his list of schools down to two, and he’s planning to announce his commitment by November, earlier than previously expected.

Petty has announced that he has cut his list down to Kentucky and Alabama.

“I’ve narrowed it down to two, so most of the pressure is really gone now,” Petty said at Northeast Alabama FCA Media Day Sunday.

The last recruiting update we had from Petty was his final five, which featured Kentucky, Alabama, UConn, Kansas and Florida State. When this list was released in early August, Petty was planning to commit in December.

He already took a visit to Alabama on Aug. 25, and is scheduled to visit Kentucky on Oct. 28.

Petty has racked up all sorts of high school accolades, leading his team to a state championship, being ranked as the No. 5 shooting guard on the 247 Sports Composite, and winning Gatorade’s Alabama Player of the Year. He also proved to be a versatile threat, averaging 19.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists in his state championship run.

Petty is the reigning Mr. Basketball in Alabama, so the hometown fans are hoping he’ll stay in-state, but 247 Sports predicts that there’s a 76% chance he’ll attend Kentucky.

It also helps UK that Petty and fellow 2017 recruit P.J. Washington, who is also favoring UK, may opt to play together in college. The two five-star forwards played for Team Penny on the AAU circuit, so they're already comfortable playing together.
