The Kentucky Wildcats may have some trouble keeping Eddie Gran in Lexington.
After UK hired Gran this offseason to become the team's next offensive coordinator, he now may be in the running for the South Miss Golden Eagles' head-coaching vacancy, according to a report from Football Scoop:
Sources tell FootballScoop that in addition to Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, Southern Miss is also considering Eddie Gran for their head coaching position. Gran, Kentucky’s offensive coordinator, spent the past three seasons as offensive coordinator at Cincinnati and served three seasons prior to that as associate head coach at Florida State. Other candidates have been interviewed as well. Sources tell us a decision could be reached today, tomorrow at the latest barring something unforseen. Stay tuned…
If that is the case and Southern Miss does in fact make a hire today, I doubt it will be Gran. There's been virtually nothing coming out of UK to suggest he was even considering a vacant coaching job, but never the less, it is worth monitoring until a hire is made...
Oh, and Jon Hale just tweeted this:
Pump the brakes. I've got a source that says Eddie Gran not in the mix at Southern Miss.

If nothing else, this can be a great thing for UK. It shows just how well respected Gran is around college football that he's getting/got head-coaching consideration. Though he's never been a head man, it's never too late to take a shot at being one.
I would venture to guess Gran was in the mix at one point and the guys at Football Scoop (who do great work) got wind of it, but by now, he's not in the running anymore. Gran isn't going to leave Mark Stoops hanging this close to National Signing Day.
