Landon Young now 5-star recruit for Kentucky Football; Now a top-15 recruit

This is big news for Kentucky football and Mark Stoops in addition to being a great honor for Young.

The Kentucky Wildcats have had plenty of five-star talent come to Lexington, but that's been mostly on the hardwood.

However, head football coach Mark Stoops and his staff have been recruiting at an unprecedented rate for UK, and they've now gotten a five-star signing in the form of offensive lineman Landon Young.

Though Young has been committed to UK for over two years now, he's slowly risen from three-star prospect way back in 2013 to now getting a five-star rating from 247 Sports, who updated their Class of 2016 rankings on Friday.

The Lafayette offensive lineman checked in at No. 12 overall after originally being their 102nd-ranked prospect. That makes him the highest-ranked commitment of the Stoops Era at Kentucky and tied for the second-highest ranked prospect to commit to the Wildcats since 2000 in the 247Sports All-Time Recruits Ranking.

"He (Young) has great length and athleticism," 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong told the Lexington Herald-Leader. "He’s your prototype when you’re describing left tackle prospects."

Wiltfong explained that 247Sports ranks 32 players from each class as five-star prospects, because there are 32 first-round picks in the NFL Draft.

"If a player gets that fifth star, we think he has that kind of capability," he said.

The 6-7, 270-pound Young is coming off a standout performance in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl where he was named the top performer of any offensive lineman.
