Can you believe it's almost been four years since Alex Poythress committed to the Kentucky Wildcats as an elite top 10 power forward? Recruited primarily by Kenny Payne, Poythress made his UK pledge in November of 2011.
Since then, Poythress experienced the "lost" NIT season as a freshman, played in all 40 games during the '13-'14 season, and a terrible knee injury eight games into his junior season. Over these years, Poythress has become a fan favorite, for various reasons.
ESPN's C.L. Brown placed Poythress on the top of a list of "forgotten players" whom he's happy to see return this season, ahead of players such as preseason All-American candidate Caris LeVert, and former 5* guard Keith Frazier.
UK won’t be quite as deep this season, meaning if Poythress proves to be fully healthy he can make an impact. To that end, Calipari said last month that he’d use Poythress his natural position of power forward rather than at small forward, where he’s been most of his career.
Needless to say, UK fans are glad to have a healthy Poythress on the roster for 2015, and apparently, they aren't the only ones.
