The Kentucky Wildcats will not be in the running for five-star guard Markelle Fultz when he makes his college announcement tonight.
Fultz, who just wrapped up visits with Washington, Arizona and Louisville, will be considering those three schools tonight when he makes his announcement live on ESPNU.
Official list for tonight's Markelle Fultz announcement given to me by ESPN: Arizona, Louisville and Washington. ... No Kentucky.— Ben Roberts (@NextCats) August 21, 2015
Coming into today, Kentucky was the slight favorite for Fultz in his 24/7 Sports crystal ball, but Washington has surged out into the lead for him:
Kentucky had been viewed as the favorite for Fultz, and national recruiting 'expert' Jerry Meyer recently said he'sd be shocked if Fultz didn't end up at UK.
I guess he's pretty shocked like the rest of UK's fans are right now. UK is still in the mix for several other talented guards for 2016, but Fultz could end up being a top-five recruit in this class, and missing out on that kind of player is tough.
That is, unless John Calipari could finish this class by landing some combination of De'Aaron Fox, Dennis Smith Jr., Rawle Alkins, and Kobi Simmons. All four guards are still very much considering UK.
Speaking of, it looks like UK is in a great position with Simmons. It looks even better now that Fultz is no longer an option.
