It looks as though 2016 be the final year we see Mike Krzyzewski coaching Team USA Basketball.
USA Basketball executive director Jerry Colangelo sat down with Marc Spears of Yahoo to discuss Team USA and how the 2016 Olympics will be Coach K's final hurrah.
Q: Is there any way you can convince Mike Krzyzewski to coach past the 2016 Rio Olympics?
Colangelo: No. This time I know it's done. I'm already working on the future. But my focus is on '16. I have so much time on my hands that I'm already working on it.
Q: Do you already have a next coach in mind?
He also says this about replacing Coach K: "I always have a guy already in my mind. Always did and always will."
Could that be Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari?
You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone more suited for the job than Coach Cal, especially when you consider who will be part of Team USA's core in 2016 and beyond.
Kings forward DeMarcus Cousins, Wizards guard John Wall, Bulls guard Derrick Rose, and Pelicans forward Anthony Davis are all strong contenders to be part of next year's team that goes to Rio to compete in the 2016 Olympics. All four were coached by Calipari in college.
Will that familiarity help Cal get the job? It may end up being his best chance to coach NBA players without actually leaving Kentucky for the NBA.
