Recruiting expert would be 'shocked' if Markelle Fultz doesn't end up at Kentucky

Markelle Fultz is now the No. 7 overall player in the Class of 2016.

The Kentucky Wildcats now appear to be in very good position with five-star guard Markelle Fultz.

24/7 Sports national recruiting expert Jerry Meyer talked about Fultz in an interview with the Lexington Herald-Leader, and he thinks UK has a very strong chance of landing the 2016 prospect.

"I feel pretty strong," he said. "From what I hear and what I know, I would kind of be shocked if he doesn't end up at Kentucky.

That's about as strong of a statement that's been said of any UK target in 2016. It's a class where, as of now, there's no one guy it looks like UK is all but certain to land. At this point in many past classes, it's been pretty evident by now as to which players are likeliest to end up Wildcats.

That's not been the case thus far in a class where only four-star forward Tai Wynyard is the only pledge. Even he's expected to join this year's team in December, meaning the month of July will likely end without someone committed to join UK next year.

That's probably not worrying John Calipari too much with so many talented players still on the board in 2016. As for Fultz, he's already said in the past that UK was his "dream school." Though he's backtracked from that, it did show how strongly interested in UK Fultz was, and it appears to be growing as the summer rolls on.

Speaking of, Meyer said he's seen significant improvement from him over the summer, leading to a big rankings boost for the talented guard.

"He's just a tremendous combo guard. And he's really shown his point guard skills here in July, and I went into July not thinking he had that.

"I think this is the new age of point guards. They're combo guards — they're guards that can do everything and have athleticism and size.

And that's the future of the position."
