With a program as tradition-rich as Kentucky basketball, ranking the best players it's ever had is no easy task.
Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News took a stab at it, and here is how his top 10 came out:
1. Dan Issel
2. Ralph Beard
3. Anthony Davis
4. Cliff Hagan
5. Jamal Mashburn
6. Alex Groza
7. Tony Delk
8. Jack Givens
9. Kevin Grevey
10. Kenny Walker
It's hard to argue that list. While Anthony Davis had arguably the greatest single season any UK player has ever had, Dan Issel was among college basketball's best in each of his three seasons playing for the Wildcats. Issel was at UK 1966-1970 and scored 2,138 points (an average of 25.7 per game) while being named an All-American for two of the three seasons he was eligible for the award. His career points total remains the highest among UK men's players.
Perhaps the biggest omission from this list is John Wall, who also had an outstanding one year in Lexington. Was it enough though that he deserves to be on this list?
