Arkansas Razorbacks at Kentucky Wildcats: Live Game Thread

Kentucky goes for their first SEC Tournament title in four years today.

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to the 2015 SEC Tournament championship game between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Kentucky Wildcats. This game will determine if Kentucky will retain the right to continue their historic undefeated run into the NCAA Tournament, or will have to recalibrate their expectations to focus purely on the NCAA Tournament championship without the encumbrance of an undefeated season

Arkansas comes into this game having defeated the Georgia Bulldogs yesterday in convincing fashion, and like the Wildcats, appear to be playing their best basketball of the season. That should make for an interesting and fun contest, but the margin of error for Arkansas is very small.

Essentials for victory

  • Good ballhandling — Kentucky needs to take care of the ball against the Razorbacks. They are good at forcing turnovers.

  • Hit the glass — Arkansas is a weak rebounding team for some reason. They are certainly big enough to do it well, but they haven't all season. UK needs to own the offensive glass. If they do that, it will be tough on the Hogs.

  • Avoid silly fouls — Kentucky committed a lot of silly fouls against the Auburn Tigers yesterday. They need to avoid those against Arkansas, who are going to draw plenty on their own.

  • Get into transition — Arkansas is a great transition team, but Kentucky is even better. Kentucky has also become a fine transition defensive team. In a running game, I like our chances.

  • Get to the line — UK is at their most efficient when they get to the line, and Arkansas fouls a lot. The 'Cats must take advantage.

  • Locate Razorbacks shooters — In transition, Kentucky sometimes loses dangerous 3-point shooters. They need to make sure and find them today, because no matter what the stats say, the Razorbacks can get hot from three and make a bunch.

If Arkansas really comes to play today, this will be a tough game for Kentucky, something they need after several easy ones in preparation for the NCAA Tournament. If the Hogs used up all their energy knocking off Georgia, then this game will likely be similar to the one in Rupp Arena, albeit with a slightly smaller margin.
