Unsung Hero: EKU Edition

This Cat's return helped UK bounce back from a soft performance against UCLA to a more physical win over EKU.

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Wednesday was my first game in Rupp this season, and I feel like I picked a pretty good one.

Alex Poythress played out of his mind, finishing the game with his third double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds, leading five Cats scoring in double figures,  and Tyler Ulis dished out eight assists as the Cats returned to their winning ways.

One of the big stories of the UCLA game was obviously Marcus Lee and his mysterious "head injury". We still don't know exactly what happened, but he seemed to return to form vs the Colonels.  While most of the people in the section I was sitting in preferred to focus on his turnovers, I chose Marcus as the Unsung Hero for the Eastern Kentucky game because he showed up with 11 points, eight rebounds, and five of the team's nine blocks.

Lee's return helped the Cats bounce back from a soft performance against UCLA to a more physical win over EKU.

"We definitely emphasized going to the hoop and being strong with the ball a lot this week just to teach us toughness in practice," Lee said after the game. "It kind of moved from practice to the game and it helped us a lot."

Another bright spot, and honorable mention, was Charles Matthews coming off the bench with seven very exciting points, including a couple of Sportscenter worthy dunks.  Nice work!
