With Thanksgiving upon us, I've taken the opportunity to bypass the usual "unsung hero" post, and go with something more fitting for the season.
Football
Sure, we've been on a bit of a cold streak, but the win against Charlotte restored my faith in the fact that we can beat the dirty birds Saturday, and be bowl eligible for the first time in a long time. I'm thankful for weird rules that might make it possible, even if we don't win (I think we will), to be bowl eligible.
I'm thankful for a coach that accepts all the responsibility. Mark Stoops has brought our football program leaps and bounds beyond where it has been, but he takes full responsibility when things don't quite go according to plan.
I'm thankful for players who have made this season fun, for the most part. Admit it, that forts game of the season when Towles was throwing bombs downfield for Badet and Johnson, and Boom was running for that opening touchdown, that was more fun than I've had in a long time watching a football game.
Basketball
I'm thankful for Coach Cal. When he came to UK he set a high standard with his first class in Wall, Cousins and Bledsoe, and has continued to exceed expectations ever since. He recruits players that are not only great players, but they're great people too. BBN is very thankful for you, Coach Cal!
I'm thankful that this season looks like it's going to be as much fun (maybe) as last year, and I'm even more thankful for that win over Duke. Seriously.
I'm thankful that the coaches for both major programs bring players in every year that make us proud to be members of the Big Blue Nation.
And lastly, I'm thankful that loving UK sports has led to this opportunity to work with some amazing people, and has brought together a group of people (mainly through Twitter, go figure) that will celebrate the wins and talk through the losses not only of UK sports, but in life as well.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Go Cats!
