The Kentucky Wildcats will be back in Rupp Arena Friday night when they host the Wright State Raiders.
UK is coming off an impressive win over Duke Tuesday night in the Champions Classic. It was the first matchup of top-five teams this college basketball season, and it was clear who the superior team this time around. The Cats scored 17 points off 16 Blue Devil turnovers and had an 18-4 advantage in fast-break points as they used speed and athleticism to pull away for a 74-63 victory.
Point guard Tyler Ulis had 18 points and six assists, Jamal Murray dropped 16 and Isaiah Briscoe added 12 as the Wildcats placed four players in double figures.UK's guards were the story of this game as they dominated Duke's backcourt throughout the game and were the reason why the Cats came out of Chicago with one of the most impressive wins any team has in this early season.
As for the Raiders, they lost to North Illinois this past Sunday. WSU led by eight at the half, but was held to 20 points in the second half as the Huskies scored the final six points for a 65-59 decision at the NIU Showcase in DeKalb, Illinois. Senior forward JT Yoho led Wright State with 16 points while Joe Thomasson added 15 along with seven rebounds.
WSU enters this game at 1-2 after beating South Dakota 77-69 in their regular-season opener, but lost 72-67 to Cal State Northridge last Saturday. Yoho is tied with sophomore guard Mark Alstork as the Raiders' leading scorer at 15.7 points per contest. Thomasson is just behind them at 15 ppg to go with 7.3 boards and 6.7 assists per game.
Center Michael Karena is WSU's biggest player that gets significant minutes as he stands at 6-10 and 270 pounds. Yoho stands at 6-6 and 235 pounds. The Raiders attack with mostly guards and undersized forwards and shouldn't have enough size to bang with UK's bigs for 40 minutes.
