There may not be more painful way to lose a game than what Michigan did against Michigan State.
Leading 23-21 with just seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Wolverines punter Blake O'Neill simply had to catch a 4th-and-2 punt from the Spartans 47-yard line to run out the clock. Even had he simply caught the ball and one down, Michigan State would have had time for just one more hail merry, so a Wolverines win seemed inevitable.
That is, until the snap by long snapper Scott Sypniewski was low, causing O'Neill to muff it and he still tried to punt it. But as he tossed the ball into the air to punt, he got dragged down by MSU defenders, and the pass went into the arms of defensive back Jalen Watts-Jackson, who ran it 38 yards into the end zone as time expired to give Sparty a 27-23 win.

I'm really not sure you can lose in more brutal fashion.
