In the wake of yesterday's Yahtzee for the 2015 class yesterday, 2016 Paducah athlete Zy'Aire Hughes has decided to make it official and commit to the University of Kentucky. Hughes is currently in Lexington with his high school team for a 7-on-7 tournament. Hughes, like many in the 2016 class, is currently unrated, but he has had an offer from Kentucky since at least the spring. That tells you how the coaches feel about his future. As I wrote two months ago, the 2016 in-state class is loaded with talent. UK will have not only SEC quality recruits, but several back-up plans in case they miss out on out-of-state options. It could all add up to UK's best recruiting class yet, and Hughes and Landon Young will be the first dominoes to fall.
The 6'1'' 185 pound Hughes currently plays quarterback for his high school team, but in college he likely ends up in either the secondary or as a receiver. Since Hughes is only about to enter his junior year of high school, it is difficult to project his future position. His highlight tape displays his athleticism and raw skills. If you live in western Kentucky it may be worth the trip to check him out in the next two years. UK's staff has done a very good job identifying talent and early, and it speaks to their opinion of Hughes that they would offer him so early.
