UK Twitter was set aflutter late last night with the news, from various sources, that Kentucky football targets Jabari Greenwood and Darius Fullwood would announce their commitments together this upcoming Saturday. Greenwood is a 247 composite three star receiver claiming many offers to include Maryland, Wisconsin, and Michigan State. Fullwood is a 247 composite three star defensive end who is deciding between UK, Virginia Tech, and Maryland to name but three. Both players live in the Washington DC area.
As of this morning, their pending commitments are just speculation (double-speculation if we consider that even if both commit, there is still a long way to NSD), but there are reasons to hope for the rare Double Yahtzee. Greenwood has been considered a UK lean for several months now. Fullwood learned last weekend that he was not going to receive an offer from Ohio State which removed his front-runner. Fullwood also attends Good Counsel HS which is the alma mater of UK freshman Kobie Walker. On the flip-side, a few Crystal Balls on 247 predicted his choice would be Virginia Tech as of yesterday.
If the players are in fact holding a joint press conference to announce, I'd be surprised if UK is not their choice as the only other school among their finalists is Maryland (apologies to our one Terp reader). If UK does receive their commitments, this further validates the job receiver coach Tommy Mainord is doing in the Mid-Atlantic region, especially the DMV area. Laying inroads to Ohio and the DMV is a smart way to diversify UK's recruiting approach rather than relying on the competitive southern states.
More to come - hopefully.
