Texas-Arlington Mavericks at Kentucky Wildcats: Live Game Thread

New, comments

For the second year in a row, the Wildcats welcome the Texas-Arlington Mavericks to Lexington.

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen of the Big Blue Nation, to the Texas-Arlington Mavericks at Kentucky Wildcats live game thread. For the third time in five days, the Wildcats find themselves in a basketball contest, this time with a markedly superior team to the Montana State team they faced just this past Sunday. For some reason, I thought there was one more game left in the Cawood Ledford Classic, but apparently this is the finale.

Game particulars:

Time: Tuesday, Nov. 25 - 7:00 p.m. ET
Place: Rupp Arena, Lexington, Ky.
TV: SEC Network
Radio: UK Sports Network
Internet: Live Audio

Essentials for victory

  • Make threes — Gotta make ‘em sometime, might as well start now.

  • Guard the perimeter — Letting UTA get open looks from three is a recipe for a genuine contest.

  • Attack the rim — UTA is a man-to-man team, and if they are not playing zone, Kentucky needs to attack the rim

  • Make free throws — Can’t say this enough, and it seems like UK is listening.

  • Keep your feet on defense — No need to jump, UTA is pretty small. Don’t go for pump fakes, just stay vertical.

  • Improve offensive smoothness — UK has looked choppy a lot on offense. I’d like to see that improve.

Kentucky must not take this team for granted, because they, unlike some other foes of ours, can really, really shoot the ball from the outside, and we all know the three-point shot is the great equalizer of size and talent. The Wildcats must guard the perimeter carefully.

It will be good to welcome Alex Poythress back. We’ve missed him.

Let’s get this done. Go, ‘Cats!
