College Football Game Day: Week 7 Schedule And Selected Analysis

Some huge games are happening in college football today with big time CFB playoff implications.

Kevin Jairaj-US PRESSWIRE

Welcome to Week 7 of the 2014 college football, the week after chaos took over the college football scene. Today there are any number of excellent games to watch, some of them with likely College Football Playoff (I think we need a better moniker for that) implications. Let’s run down a few of the best:

Noon games

Like any good Wildcats fan, you’re going to be watching the ULM-UK game. But if that gets out of control and you get bored, here are your best bets:

  • Texas Longhorns at Oklahoma Sooners — Look, I know this is destined to be a likely blowout, but this is the Red River Rivalry. It’s always worth tuning into for at least a few minutes. This is the Big 12 equivalent of Auburn-Alabama.

  • Georgia Bulldogs at Missouri Tigers — Georgia desperately needs this game to stay relevant in the SEC East, and Missouri, last year’s East champ, is looking for a repeat. This game should be one worth watching.

3:30 games

  • VMI Keydets vs. Navy Midshipmen — Your humble correspondent will be at this game, cheering on his former comrades-in-arms. If you tune in, you might see me there in Navy Blue and Gold.

  • Louisville Cardinals at Clemson Tigers — This will be a good opportunity to see if Louisville’s defense is really as good as it appears on paper. The Tigers are favored anywhere from 6.5 to 9.5 points, and this will be a fine opportunity to scout the Cards before the Governor’s Cup.

  • TCU Horned Frogs at Baylor Bears — A Big 12 showdown of top 10 undefeateds with major CFB Playoff implications.

  • Auburn Tigers at Mississippi St. Bulldogs — The SEC game of the week. The Bulldogs dismantled a good Texas A&M team last week, while the Tigers beat LSU like a rented mule. This should be an instant classic and is not to be missed. Dak Prescott vs. Nick Marshall, oh my.

  • Oregon Ducks at UCLA Bruins — I think the Ducks win this one going away, but if the other games are boring, give this tilt between two ranked Pac-12 foes a try.

Later games

  • Oklahoma State Cowboys at Kansas State Wildcats — I think an upset may be brewing here.

  • Alabama Crimson Tide at Arkansas Razorbacks — Trap game for the Tide, in my view. Arkansas running attack is extremely dangerous, and Alabama is coming off a bummer of a loss to Ole Miss. Could the Rebels beat them twice?

  • LSU Tigers at Florida Gators — Want to see a desperate man try desperately to win a football game? This is the archetype. Will Muschamp may not survive with this win, but if he loses, it’s another nail in his coffin.

  • Ole Miss Rebels at Texas A&M Aggies — This is a game where Ole Miss can make the statement that the Alabama victory was no accident. TAMU needs this one desperately to stay relevant in the stacked West, if that is even possible.

  • USC Trojans at Arizona Wildcats — This is a possible top ten team headed for an upset. USC is smarting after tough loss against Arizona State, but the Wildcats have proven themselves this season and the Trojans have not.

Enjoy the games.
