Tonight, the final BCS Championship ever will be determined as the Florida St. Seminoles face the Auburn Tigers. As per my routine, I'll be pulling for the SEC school, but only in a pro-forma way. I don't hate the Seminoles, and wouldn't mind seeing them win.

  • The Leach Report: January 5th. Consider:

Seeding is not the be-all-end-all for success in the NCAA Tournament but it does matter. More 1-seeds have made the Final Four than 2′s, more 2′s than 3′s, etc. and a ’1′ has never lost its first game in the tourney.

As of today, we’re 10 weeks out from Selection Sunday and conventional wisdom says Kentucky needed to beat Louisville to keep hope alive for getting a number one seed from the selection committee. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, who put the phrase "Bracketology" into the sports lexicon, says that thinking is correct but the Wildcats will probably need some help to be one of the four teams on the top line of the bracketing.

I think this is right, but only if Kentucky loses more than 1 or 2 games in the SEC regular season. I think it's very important that they get to the SEC Tournament final in any case, although the outcome of that game is largely irrelevant to seeding.

  • Anthony Davis' former high school coach thinks UK fans will like Tyler Ulis. I think he may surprise us.

  • Why the heck is everybody picking Florida to win the SEC these days? Is it contrarian, or is it just the anomaly of last year infecting their brain?
