Tennessee Volunteers 66, Kentucky Wildcats 74: Post Game Party

Kentucky defeats Tennessee on the strength of some excellent play by the Harrison Twins, and lights-out free throw shooting.

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

The Kentucky Wildcats got a big win over a game Tennessee Volunteers squad today in Rupp Arena. It was not an easy win, but the Wildcats refused to let a slow start derail their comeback from the loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

I'll have the full postmortem in a little while, but in the meantime, here are the final stats for you to chew on:

Some quick observations:

  • Kentucky took much better care of the ball today than at Arkansas. They are tough to beat when they do that.

  • Julius Randle should never again take the ball out of bounds. He's turned the ball over 4 times by stepping in bounds with the ball in his hands this year. Enough is enough.

  • Hated the dumb fouls late in the game.

  • Love me some Harrison twins. Both played extremely well.

  • Free throw shooting - It's comin' around!

  • I wish Randle were more consistent half to half.

  • What happened to our rebounding? I expected a challenge, not a drubbing.

  • Whither Willie Cauley-Stein?

  • Whither Alex Poythress?

  • Whither Dominique Hawkins?

  • Jarrod Polson is playing extremely good basketball, and he is defending his man competently. I am getting more and more confident with him on the floor.

More later. Enjoy the victory, and the rest of your weekend. Don't let it trouble you that Kentucky didn't kill Tennessee, UT is a very good, experienced and talented squad. I am very happy with how the game went, even though there are plenty of things to criticize. But that comes later.
