Kobie Walker (via SEC Recruiting)
The 6' 4'' 210 lb. Walker was one of UK's earliest commitments (5/13/13) and comes from a top notch high school program that produces talent UK will target in 2015 and beyond. Walker opens the door for the future at Good Counsel. Tommy Mainard had help from D.J. Eliot to seal the deal. He had 10 offers and Kentucky beat out Wisconsin, Miami, Syracuse and Oklahoma St. among others.
In high school, it appears that Walker primarily played safety, but I strongly suspect that won't be the case after he arrives to UK. His height will allow for him to put on at least 30 pounds next year in the strength and conditioning program, and if maintains his speed (4.6 forty time reportedly)he will become a contributor somewhere in the front seven. I'm not sure if his ultimate destination will be outside linebacker or defensive end, and I think that determination will depend on how much good weight he's capable of carrying while maintaining a speed advantage at his position.
A 6' 4'' 250 lb. outside linebacker will have a NFL body-type. Projected roster depth at both positions will be a consideration as well. I suspect Walker will redshirt this season in order to put on some weight and refine technique while learning a new position.
