The Army combine for underclassmen is also in full swing. I will have an article about this combine next week because there are some kids from Kentucky participating in this underclassmen event.
Be our Valentine:
The latest news still involves the Glenville Three (for the record, there is no evidence that the trio called Urban Meyer to inform him they are going elsewhere) and Matt Elam, but a new player has also emerged: Trevonte Valentine who tweeted this yesterday:
travonte valentine @traveeey99
Switching my offical visit out Alabama<Kentucky
So, who is responsible for this newly found attention from Valentine? None other than the uncommitted Matt Elam, UK early enrollee Drew Barker AND the Ohio State commit Marcelys Jones. Reportedly, they convinced Valentine to talk with the entire coaching staff by phone on Wednesday and yesterday Valentine decided to forego his official visit to Alabama in favor of an official visit to Kentucky! Jimmy Brumbaugh is listed as his primary recruiter. Who is Trevonte Valentine, you ask? Ask and you shall receive:
Valentine flipped from Louisville to Miami last July, after committing to Louisville back in May. He plans to take official visits to LSU (1/17/14), The U (1/31/14) and now Kentucky (1/24/14). He currently holds 32 offers, including from most top 25 schools. Ranks and Ratings:
247 Sports - (96.0) 4* - Ranked # 56 (# 115 composite) in the top 247. The Army All-American's primary recruiter from UK is Brumbaugh with help coming from Elam, Barker and Jones.
Rivals - (5.8) 4* - Ranked # 210 in the Rivals Top 250. In typical fashion at Rivals, he doesn't show an offer from Kentucky.
Scout - 4*- Ranked # 133 in the Scout Top 300. Scout still has him going to Alabama on 1/24 and doesn't show an offer from UK.
ESPN - (83.0) 4* - Ranked #170 in the ESPN Top 300
I don't believe he'll sign with UK, but the fact that he's showing enough interest to make an official visit says something about our recruiting efforts. Elam is the top target for the Cats. If we get him and no one else, be happy...very happy. Should Jones flip, he's a strawberry topping for our shortcake. Should we get the other two from Glenville, that's more strawberries. Should we get Valentine, whipped cream has been added as the final topping.
Under Armour Game commitments:
I saw some unbelievable talent in yesterday's game and it was loaded with 5 star players. LSU won the commitment battle with the commitments of #1 Leonard Fournette and 4* Jamal Adams (some thought he would commit to Florida because Joker Phillips is his god-father). Alabama picked up 5* Tony Brown from Texas. Texas A&M picked up 5* Speedy Noil and Florida State got a commitment from 4* Travis Rudolph. Arizona picked up 4* Jalen Tabor who chose those Wildcats over Alabama. Florida picked up Gerald Willis.
Offense-Defense All Star Game:
Never heard of it? Me either, but this is its 8th year. Here's their website. This event won't be on TV, but you can watch it via live streaming here. Why you should be interested....UK commitments are playing in this game: Blake Bone, Adrian Middleton, Nick Richardson, Thaddeus Snodgrass, Kobie Walker, and Stanley "Boom" Williams. Here's the entire roster.
Here's a couple of updates: Stanley "Boom" Williams was the MVP and Blake Bone caught the game winner.
Semper Fidelis All-American Game
Mikel Horton is playing in this game which will be televised by Fox Sports 1 at 9:00 pm EST on the 5th.
Coming Soon to A Sea of Blue near you:
1. More to come regarding this weekend's events on Monday.
2. Wamarsh and I will have a joint effort article after Signing Day about our signed recruits which will include video on each.
3. I'm working on a Roundtable discussion about the four recruiting services - likes, dislikes and strengths and weaknesses. This will include some folks from other sites and schools. That will come after Signing Day.
4. Between now and Signing Day, I hope to publish my final installment of the Charlie Bradshaw years.
Thanks for reading. Ripp off.
