2014 PG Tyus Jones Cancels Official Visit to the Kentucky Wildcats

Expected news, but still disappointing.

USA TODAY Sports

Another recruiting offer bites the dust? 2014 point guard Tyus Jones from Apple Valley (MN) cancelled his official visit to Lexington, according to Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal. Jones had been scheduled to visit the Kentucky Wildcats starting tomorrow, September 27.

Steve Jones received confirmation of Jones' cancellation from both of Jones' parents. There has not been a definitive statement that Jones won't ever visit Lexington, but the writing is on the wall. After Kentucky accepted a commitment from point guard Tyler Ulis, a Jones commitment was never going to happen.

The primary concern for Kentucky going forward is how Jones' decision will affect his close friend and fellow five-star recruit, Jahlil Okafor. The big man from Chicago (IL) Whitney Young took an official visit to Lexington for the UK Alumni Charity game earlier this month. Despite positive reviews about the visit from Okafor, the feeling is that Kentucky still heavily trails the Duke Blue Devils.

Jones and Okafor have repeatedly maintained that they will attend the same college as a "package deal." Nothing to date has swayed recruitniks from believing differently. With Kentucky seemingly out of the picture, just Duke, the Baylor Bears, and the Kansas Jayhawks will receive official visits from both players.
