[Editor's Note] Greg will be taking over the quickies for a few days while I tend to an ill family member.
- Homer Bailey is coming into his own. He has thrown baseball's consecutive 279th and 280th no-hitters. That would have been enough, but his 9th inning pitch velocity? 97mph. Someone was throwing aspirin tablets.
- Just in case anyone forgets that drugs are a universal problem and not just limited to high-profile athletes with all the money in the world, 3rd generation MLB umpire Brian Runge, son of Paul Runge, and grandson of Ed Runge has been terminated for violating the league's drug policy after testing positive and agreeing to comply with an established program. Ugh.
- Coach Cal is at it again, evidently he has had time to think and relax.....look out college basketball. The IndyStar reports that Calipari has "owned" college basketball recruiting since coming to Kentucky....Tell us something we don't know.
- This is the piece that started it all: Calipari releases his recruiting "Manifesto 2013"
- Eric Bledsoe has a new home. Don't know if this is good or bad, but I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Doc Rivers might have pulled the lever too quickly on this one. Doc's a great coach, but Bledsoe has all the tools to make for a first rate PG in the NBA with the proper surrounding cast. Look what the right players did for Rondo. Eric moving to Phoenix is going to make it difficult on Archie Goodwin.
- The Baylor Lady Bears' Kim Mulkey has been suspended from an NCAA Tournament game by the NCAA for being a repeat offender in complaining about the referees' non-action in keeping former Baylor superstar Brittney Griner from being assaulted in last year's tournament. Seems Mulkey complained about being placed in the same bracket with Texas A&M in a year they had already played them three times. Welcome to our world, Kim.Happens to UK a lot. Here is a hint Kim, don't complain, suggest. They aren't going to listen anyway.
- For you NASCAR fans, Denny Hamlin cleared to race again in his concussion tests. I wonder if Joe Gibbs did concussion tests on his NFL players?
- This is a great story. Derrick Walton has definitely got his priorities straight.
- Just in case anyone was wondering, all this basketball conference realigning is not great for everyone involved
- Creighton coach Greg McDermott is doing things the right way. It does, however, make me wonder why Creighton doesn't step up and do the right thing for it's coaches and put their kids through their school.
- SEC Head Basketball coaches are complaining about transfers. Wake up, guys. It's 2013. Man up and do the right thing for your players.
- For those of you who enjoy a cocktail or two with your favorite UK sports activity, you might want to avoid these...some have more calories than Big Macs.
- A little music news for "non-musicians". Air Guitar is alive and well!
- For those among us who can remember the 1960's....music for the "Summers of Love"
- While we are on the eve of the All-American holiday, Independence Day, "Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet" were once the staple of American life. So, of course, Chevy is bringing them back.
- Jeremy Fowler at CBS Sports says that the AAC cannot take long to establish themselves after the last two years of mass exodus. Personally I feel like the AAC is a fool's errand. Without a big-time program to anchor the conference, they are nothing more than a stop-gap measure in this conference realignment game.
