Kentucky's 2013 Football Roster - Not a Depth Chart Edition

As you may or may not know, the NCAA says your enrolled roster cannot be more than 85 players on scholarship. Additionally, the SEC says you can’t sign more than 25 per class. That doesn’t mean you can’t sign more the 25 because of back-counting. Attrition can cause an increase in the number of recruits you can sign in the next school year. Enrollment dates are important.

UK has released its 2-deep depth chart going into SEC Media Days. You can get it at the the UK Athletics site and several other sites.

I have looked at the Kentucky post-Spring practice roster, updated it, and rearranged it by recruiting class in order to get the scholarship players. Then, I went back to each class and found each player's stars and Rivals rating. I also included how many letters, if any, each player has earned. The purpose was to give everyone an idea of our talent level, ignoring that some of our players may have developed into better players since they arrived on campus. Others may have stayed the same and others may have regressed. Stuff happens.

The players shown in bold are scholarship players. I used letters earned to show experience level rather than using what class a player is in for experience. Walk-ons and Transfers are not included in any rating for a position. If anyone knows if Cody Jones, Jared Leet or John Gruenschlager are on scholarships, please let me know in the comments. Here's what the roster looks like by position. You'll note that the Thomas brothers are no longer listed on the team. Of course, we'll have a better picture when the August enrollment numbers are in.

We also have the issue of the Davis twins who are transferring in from Pitt. Both were Rivals (5.7) 3 stars.They've filed an appeal to the NCAA in the hopes of not having to sit out a year since both were red-shirts last year. I wonder if they know what "fat chance" means? The amazing thing is that they are walk-ons. Of course, Kentucky didn't recruit them. You can read about them at KSR. Judging from the photo, we want these two on the field as soon as possible. They pass the "look" test and both have 4.4 speed.

I have also added the 2013 signed commitments. Some will see action, especially the JUCOs.

This position is, by far, Kentucky's weakest link, offensively, due to a lack of numbers. Only five scholarship players are returning. The new class brings in three more.
