The Golden Nugget has over 200 game lines already out, and Jason Kirk of SB Nation is on the case.
Let's look at a few choice Kentucky lines:
-
Vs. Louisville Cardinals -14 - I'm actually surprised it's this low, considering the hype Louisville is getting.
-
Vs. Tennessee Volunteers -7.5 - Given our season last year, I'll take that. Vols fans probably hate to see it.
-
Vs. Florida Gators -20 - That's also a bit surprising, considering Louisville is likely to be ranked higher than the Gators initially. Must be the rivalry effect.
-
At South Carolina Gamecocks -23.5 - Ouch.
-
Vs. Alabama Crimson Tide -30 - Double ouch.
-
At Georgia Bulldogs -29 - Yikes
If these games are all this noncompetitive, Stoops & Co. will surely suffer to some degree, even in the honeymoon period. Could this be the toughest schedule ever for a Kentucky team in the 12-game era? I think it's likely.
There are lots of other great lines out there. Consider that the USC Gamecocks are 4.5 point favorites over a really good Clemson team albeit in Columbia, and that Louisville is only a 3 point favorite at the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Texas Longhorns as an 8-point dog to the Baylor Bears is probably causing some consternation among a Burnt Orange Nation already feeling ever-decreasing love toward Mack Brown.
I get the impression that the Vegas line-setters are not as sold on Louisville as many college football prognosticators. The thing is, though, Louisville has such a weak schedule that an undefeated season is not out of the question.
