Kentucky Wildcats: Morning Quickies - Game 7 Edition

News and commentary from around the Big Blue Internet. John Calipari named honorary pace car driver. UK offers #1 recruit in 2015 basketball. Archie Goodwin getting positive feedback from team workouts. More.

Tonight is Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Let's hope it lives up to Game 6, and what has been one of the great NBA finals matchups I can remember.

Tweet of the Morning:

Your Quickies:

Kentucky football
  • Redshirt offensive lineman T.J. Jones dismissed from UK's football team. [Hank]

The infamous "violation of team rules."

  • Everything you want to know about Tyre Brady in this interview: I get the idea that the acceptance on hold isn't a big deal. [Hank]

  • Good interview with one of the Davis twins, who recently transferred from Pittsburgh. [Via Hank]

  • A little early to be talking about this...actually a lot too early. [Hank]

  • Is a UK offer coming? [Hank]

  • Mr. SEC on Kentucky and Tennessee's success. I particularly liked this:

Stoops is clearly a top-notch salesman. Right now he’s peddling nothing more than a dream (much as James Franklin had to do as he began his rebuilding work at Vanderbilt). Stoops is pushing that dream to recruits in his home state of Ohio, long a needed recruiting base for the Cats. With eight of his school’s commitments coming from the Buckeye State, Stoops is not only targeting the right area but he’s having success there.

  • What makes this Kentucky 2014 class so strong?

What makes his class so strong? Defensive standouts, which makes complete sense considering Stoops served as a defensive coordinator the past eight seasons.

  • Mike Farrell of, a football analyst, picked up more than 400 follows in 12 hours after UK took over the top spot in Rivals recruiting. His remark on Twitter?

  • Well, this seems pretty unambiguous to me from Tyre Brady.

Kentucky basketball
  • There are several reasons why Tubby should have a banner hanging in Rupp. [Hank]

  • The real reason why Pitino says going to Louisville was the best thing he's ever done. (tongue firmly planted in cheek). [Hank]

  • It's all about him...still and always will be. World without End. [Hank]

So all the other times he asserted the opposite were ... what? Cognitive deficiencies? Confusion? Outright lies? What is the real truth, Rick? Nah, don't bother -- we won't believe you anyway.

  • Calipari is an honorary pace car driver for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400.

  • 2014 point guard Josh Perkins' father talks about John Calipari and his son. Consider:

More from Perkins on those who talk down UK’s program:

"My son introduced me to a word called ‘haters.’ There’s just haters out there, and no matter what you do they’re going to find something negative to say about it. … Wherever there’s drama, that’s where people want to gravitate to. And half the time they don’t even know what they’re talking about."

Is that kind of like, "Haters gon' hate?"

  • 2015 guard Malik Newman has picked up a scholarship offer from Coach Cal. He's reckoned the best player in the class at the moment.

  • Cat Scratches projects Nerlens Noel in the 2013 NBA Draft.

  • Archie Goodwin getting "positive feedback" from his NBA workouts:

"Most of his mistakes were from going too fast and being out of control," one NBA scout, who cannot be named talking about specific players, said. "But you don’t mind that. You can teach a kid to slow down. It’s hard to get guys to go all-out who don’t play that way. He has to get his shot more consistent and work on his ballhandling, but you don’t question his effort."
