Also, I am having a minor surgical procedure today, so blogging may be affected.

We're # 2 and not just at Rivals. [Hank]
What's interesting here is Kentucky's points. Notice the quality of the recruits in several other classes is higher on average. But not the Louisville Cardinals, not by ... a lot. Muahahahaha!

Adam Himmelsbach at the Louisville Courier-Journal is as amazed as the rest of us at Kentucky's recruiting success so far. But he's not buying the "lucky" argument:
Nevertheless, UK is among college football’s ruling class — the Notre Dames and Alabamas and Michigans — and when you first spot the name "Kentucky," you sort of feel like you’ve found Waldo.
But this is not a mirage or even a miracle. This is the result of a thorough and fastidious onslaught by first-year head coach Mark Stoops and his staff.
All of which leads us to wonder what the last couple of staffs were doing? But I really liked this comment by Drew Barker when asked how he can put the past lack of UK success in the rear-view mirror:
"We’re all committed to the future of the program, all of the players," Barker said. "This is the first full class with the new staff. It’s not like the new staff was there when they were losing."
In other words, they are leaving the past in the past. As they should. [Via Hank]

I see a fascinating double-standard being applied to the NCAA by the media. For years, the media have complained that the NCAA should be held accountable. Julie Roe Lach was the senior person at the NCAA directly involved in the Miami investigation debacle, and if the review by Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP is correct, she was precisely the right person to suffer the consequences. Yes, the NCAA #2 guy, Jim Isch, was tangentially involved, but he was unaware of the questionable conduct by the NCAA investigators.
The media, on the other hand, are happy to report that Lach was scapegoated. Read the report -- she wasn't. She was aware of the circumstances but somehow lost track of them. It was her job not to do that, and she did.
I could go on and on about the reporting, and the fact that the media is conveniently ignoring the investigations findings as they search for ways to blame this on Mark Emmert. Emmert may deserve to be sacked for a lot of reasons, but in my view, this isn't one of them.
