Kentucky earned the verbal commitment of another 2014 player yesterday, and since he isn't particularly highly ranked, it flew a bit under the radar. But let's talk about Tyre Brady for just a second.
Although Brady is only a 3-star, he is a big target and has a very impressive offer list, including:
- Florida Gators
- Florida St. Seminoles
- Miami Hurricanes
- Mississippi St. Bulldogs
- Central Florida Knights
- Minnesota Golden Gophers
- Ohio St. Buckeyes -- OSU expressed interest in Brady, but apparently did not get around to offering him a ride.
Here's what SB Nation's Bud Elliot emailed me about Brady:
Kentucky, y'all picked up a commitment from Tyre Brady! He's a 6'5 receiver. No article from us on Brady, but he is a big target with marginal speed. He moved to Houston for a semester last year, but is now back in South Miami. Needs to make sure to take care of business in the classroom.
Brady has had a very impressive off season, and that's when all the recruiting attention began. He appears to be a late bloomer and to have grown a couple of inches. Despite his lack of great speed, he can be very dangerous on out routes and fades due to his good hands and route running. His size makes him a good jump-ball target.
If Brady continues to rise, there is a chance we could lose him late. He grew up an Ohio St. fan, and if they offer, it wouldn't surprise me to see him decommit from UK. But right now, I don't see that happening.
Also, Bud mentions academics above, and the reason he does so is that Brady missed the 2011 season due to academic problems. He seems to have addressed that problem, and is saying all the right things about the place of academics. I'm fairly confident he'll pull through, although he could backslide and fail to qualify as a freshman.
Hank has a few more details about Brady in an upcoming article later today.
