The football commitments keep rolling in. Darius West (remember him from this article by Hank with the tongue-in-cheek title?) committed to Kentucky yesterday. That elevated Kentucky yet another spot in the national recruiting rankings to #6 in the nation, and 3rd in the SEC behind #1 Texas A&M and #2 Tennessee.
West is a "big get" for Kentucky. He is the #15 ranked safety in 2014 by Rivals.com nationally. Combined with Mike Edwards and Denzel Ware, the Wildcats are well on their way to vastly improving on their 2013 effort, which, despite the late start, was the best football recruiting class in memory.
If you look at the list John Clay has, it's interesting to find that UK has only one actual Kentucky player for 2014 and an astonishing eight from Ohio. Texas, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Maryland are also represented in the 2014 class so far. Drew Barker is the only player from the Commonwealth to commit to the Wildcats to date.
Ben Roberts at NextCats has this related piece which maps out the 4-star players who have committed to Kentucky since Guy Morriss took over from Hal Mumme. Roberts' tweet says it all:
9 four-star players committed when Brooks was head coach. 3 when Joker was head coach. Mark Stoops has 7 in 6 months http://t.co/HC3bFfSMBX
