2014 SG Devin Booker Receives a Kentucky Wildcats Offer

The five-star shooting guard from Moss Point (MS) was verbally offered by John Calipari.

USA TODAY Sports

A little bit of recruiting news tonight: 2014 shooting guard Devin Booker from Moss Point (MS) High School received an offer from the Kentucky Wildcats. Head coach John Calipari visited Booker at school earlier today, at which point he extended the offer to Booker. The news was first reported by Jason Jordan, but later confirmed by Booker via Twitter.

The offer is the first one extended by Kentucky during the 2013 spring/summer evaluation period. Booker joins Rashad Vaughn, from New Hope (MN) Cooper as the only two shooting guards with UK offers in the 2014 class. The Booker offer is a little surprising in that in came over D'Angelo Russell of Montverde (FL) Academy. Russell is a Louisville native, and is also thought to be high on Kentucky's recruiting board.

Wednesday was the last day of the NCAA's Recruiting Period. Coaches are allowed to attend sanctioned events this upcoming weekend, but then won't have contact with recruits until the end of May. As it stands, Booker may be the only offer from Coach Cal this spring.

If so, it's a good one. Booker is the son of former Missouri Tiger Melvin Booker. He profiles as a high IQ player that can really shoot the ball. Booker already claims offers from the Duke Blue Devils, Michigan Wolverines, Michigan St. Spartans, Florida Gators, and Missouri Tigers, amongst others. He had previously lived in Michigan prior to the move to Mississippi.
