Melvin Lewis, a junior college defensive tackle out of Fullerton Community College in Fullerton, California, has committed to the University of Kentucky. Here’s his tweet:
It's official, signed with UK #BBN twitter.com/BigMel94/statu…

Lewis is 6’4"/320#, and was unranked by Rivals.com or Scout.com, and is unlisted by ESPN. But despite the lack of hype, you can often tell a lot about a player by who else was recruiting him. In Lewis’ case, his list looks like this:
- Miami (FL)
- Washington
- Kentucky
That doesn’t tell us too much, but if he’s good enough to draw a Miami offer, he’s likely good enough for Kentucky.
Lewis will be eligible this upcoming season, and he will add some much-needed size and depth to Kentucky’s defensive line, which seems to be getting better fast. Lewis had 41 tackles and 3.5 sacks last season, according to Rivals ($). Jimmy Brumbaugh was the guy who recruited Lewis.
