Kentucky Wildcat Lynx: The News In Blue 10/16/2013

Considering that about 1/2 the team was probably getting some kind of physical therapy for injuries, maybe that's a good thing. But I don't think Stoops was impressed. Gotta get these guys healthy. I am loving the bye week a lot this year.

Yahoo Sports talks about Cal introducing his latest #1 Recruiting Class yesterday. No matter how many times I say that it never gets old. KSR is doing one of the things I truly like about their site this time of year as they are comparing the antics of past Big Blue Madness participants tournament style. Thankfully I don't have to read the comments section to enjoy the articles. And for those of you who were asking along with me, "What on God's Green Earth was Doug Gottlieb thinking?" with his #7 ranking of the Cats, well the KSR main page has the audio of his visit with Matt Jones.

Moving on to the rest of the SEC, EDSBS has a piece on blatant homerism and LSU. And a buffet. By now you have probably heard of the Bristol Bowl. 2016, Tennessee Vs. Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway. Going for an all-time attendance record for a football game. If they had only gotten two good football teams. Well Hokies and Vols, you have two years to get there, don't disappoint those 160K people jammed into BMS. Or Rocky Top may just turn into a rocky pile. Dan Rubenstein says that Auburn can beat Texas A&M. I say that Dan has been sneaking into Glenn's FRSB.

Not trying to start anything here, and I am in no way saying that Bama did not dominate Kentucky on Saturday. I did not, however, see the same game as this fellow from the esteemed SBNation Blog RollBamaRoll. Team Speed Kills gives us the best of the "Monday Morning Recaps", as I call them from around the SEC; some of it is very good, some of it, meh.

And now, the rest of the stories. The NFL is off it's rocker. In the NFL Power Rankings from CBSSports.com, the Kansas City Chiefs are the #2 team in the league behind the Denver Broncos. No, that is not a misprint. at 6-0 K.C. is the #2 team in the league and the next target of the ignorant Politically Correct. Anyone remember "No Mas"? When Roberto Duran's immortal words were spoken, he could not have known that they would become his trademark and a moniker he could never outbox. But did he really say it?

And in case you didn't know it, MLB has the playoffs going on. Am I the only one who could care less? Has baseball lost you too? Even my Reds resurgence under Dusty Baker the last few years has not been enough to revive my interest in the national past time.

Chalk this one up to arrogance and ignorance. The Memphis Grizzlies owner, Robert Pera, wants to make a bet. With Michael Jordan. On Basketball. Pera is putting up $1M to challenge Michael Jordan to a game of 1-on-1, for charity. I have $1 that says he has already written the check to charity now, and that Michael never has to break out even his pen. Where can you see a ballgame, and get the very best in cuisine at the same time? No, Chez Paul (NSFW) is not installing big screens. But Yahoo! has a listing of the Top 7 Ballparks in the nation, rated by their cuisine.

For our Links That Wild Weasel Would Never Find section today we have the U.S. Men's Soccer Team pulling out an incredible and highly unlikely win over Panama and thereby giving Mexico new life after they stubbed their big toe by dropping a match to Costa Rica. Not to be outdone by the current Wildcats dropping like flies to injury, Randall Cobb is placed on IR by the Packers for 6-8 weeks. And since we do not have enough bizarre things to talk about in this world, you can peruse this for your reading pleasure. It should give a few chuckles. The one about the crooks trying to open a safe full of fireworks with an acetylene torch was a particularly hilarious bit.

And lastly, I believe that this was linked to back earlier in the year, and no, I am not resurrecting the Tubby Smith debate. What I am asking is this. Was Mark Story right? Is this game too much for your average, everyday, decent kind of a guy? And by average, I don't mean in talent.Has college sports reached the point that there is no room for the Tubby Smith's, the Rick Majerus', or the Don Donaher's. If we have, are we going the right direction? Doing the right thing? If that's the case, where will we be in 20 years?

And really lastly, don't have anything to do today? Try this. Find someone who you do not know, have never seen before, and do something nice for them. Doesn't have to be much, just something that might change their day a little bit. If it works, email me and let me know what happened.
