Kentucky Wildcats Recruiting: Dominic Woodson Plans an Unofficial Visit

Per Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal, 2013 center Dominic Woodson will take an unofficial visit to Kentucky this Saturday. Woodson, who is ranked 44th in his class according to 247's Composite Rankings, does not have a Kentucky offer but did list the Wildcats in his top 10 last month. Accompanying Woodson on the visit will be 2015 wing Montaque Gill-Caesar.

Both Woodson and Gill-Caesar play high school ball for Huntington Prep in West Virginia, better known to Kentucky fans as Patrick Patterson's alma mater. According to Jones, Kentucky head coach John Calipari and staff will be at Huntington Prep this Sunday, the first day of the fall contact period. The Wildcats are heavily interested in another Huntington Prep player, small forward Andrew Wiggins. He is the consensus top prospect in the 2014 class, though rumors abound that he will reclassify to 2013.

Woodson is originally from the Louisville area, but also spent some time in central Texas prior to playing high school basketball last season in Vermont. His high school head coach, Rob Fulford, says Texas A&M, N.C. State, Cincinnati, and Baylor are currently recruiting Woodson hardest.

Kentucky currently does not have a true center prospect offer outstanding in the 2013 class. Woodson does not appear to possess the ideal skill set for Calipari's system. Reportedly close 300 pounds, Woodson looks more like a paint clogger and volume rebounder in college. However, he does have considerable skill, and with elite true centers a scarce commodity in the 2013 class, Woodson could very well end up being an intriguing prospect on Kentucky's big board.

{Ed. Note: As intrepid reader Wild Weasel points out below, Patterson played for Huntington High, which is different than Huntington Prep. Apologies.}
