Kentucky Wildcats Recruiting: Marcus Lee the Latest 2013 Prospect to Receive a UK Offer

Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari was on the West Coast yesterday, making a visit to Marcus Lee (Antioch Deer Valley). According to Corey Albertson from, Calipari, as expected, officially offered Lee on his visit.

Lee is listed as a power forward, but explosive the 6' 9" big man could conceivably play center in college, especially if he has another growth spurt during his senior year. Lee is considered a plus defender and a very active athlete on the interior.

Lee is just one of two outstanding offers at the power forward/center spots for Kentucky, with uber-prospect Julius Randle from Plano Prestonwood Christian holding the other. Derek Willis, a combo forward, is currently committed to the Wildcats and expected to sign in the fall.

Lee recently cut his list to just three schools: California, Kentucky, and Louisville. He visited Louisville on the weekend of September 7, and plans to be in Lexington for Big Blue Madness on October 13. It will be Lee's first time visiting Kentucky. Common consensus is that local program California is the leader, as Lee has visited the school multiple times.

Lee is expected to decide in time to sign in the fall. Getting a commitment from Lee would not necessarily preclude the Wildcats from continuing to pursue Randle, likely a spring decision. Even if Lee were to choose Kentucky, he could easily play center with Randle either starting at power forward or sharing time with returnee Kyle Wiltjer.

That said, landing Lee should be considered a long shot until news comes out otherwise. We should know a lot more on where Lee stands following his visit in October.
