Kentucky Wildcats: Morning Quickies - Losing To Directional Schools Edition

With the loss to a very good, but very Sun Belt, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers team on Saturday, Kentucky football has been thrown into chaos, at least from a fan standpoint. Today is the day for the orgy of recriminations, but after this post we are moving on.

Tweet of the Morning:

Word.

Your quickies follow the jump.

Time for a Change, WKU 32 UK 31 // MrBBN.com

Some interesting comments from Mr. BBN. I am especially interested in his coaching suggestion, but that's really a topic for later on.

Stunned by WKU, Joker Phillips feels heat as fans fall away // The Courier-Journal

"We weren’t dominant," defensive coordinator Rick Minter said. "We just played kind of solid here and there."

What game was Minter watching? And what does this comment say about him as a coach?

Ira Combs' Weekly Column

Now all that remains is when Mitch Barnhart will be faced with pulling the trigger on Phillips contract . Simply put, unless Mitch Barnhart has (the patience of a vulture and they're swarming like crazy all across the Commonwealth) I just can't see Joker and his staff surviving this .

You can never say for sure, and the season isn't over, but Ira and I are, as of now, of a mind.

Kentucky Sports Radio // Drake gives credit to Cal/Kentucky for helping him finish school

I'm not a fan of Drake's work, but I am a fan of this attitude.

Kentucky Sports Radio // What a difference 3 years can make…

Ouch. But absolutely true.

No. 13 UF proves to be too much for UK volleyball // The Kentucky Kernel

Not a particularly competitive outing for Volleyball.

Is this the lowest? // Chris Diggs – UK Fan Blog

Too early to say. We lost to MAC team Ohio in 2004 en route to a 2-win season. Phillips will at least match that this year, most likely.

Phillips, Cats suffer overwhelming setback // The Kentucky Kernel

Jalen Battle, a commit from the class of 2013, tweeted, "KENTUCKY IS ABOUT TO RUIN A GOOD NIGHT," among other negative comments, including questioning the defense.

Fellow 2013 recruit Skai Moore tweeted, "(Just) when I put Kentucky in the (running)." That resulted in a response from Battle that said, "SMH THERE GOES ALL HOPE OF HIM COMING WITH ME."

Losing this game will have consequences to recruiting as well.

Looming openings at Arkansas, Colorado and Kentucky? // Yahoo! Sports Canada

And Kentucky's Joker Phillips, who is 12-16 as UK head coach, has work to do in Lexington if he wants to get a fourth season to lead the Wildcats. After losing the opener to in-state rival Louisville 32-14, the 'Cats beat Kent State only to fall Saturday to Willie Taggart's upstart Western Kentucky squad in overtime 32-31. The Bobby Petrino rumors will unquestionably reach epic heights this week in Lexington.

Yeah, sadly too many fans are willing to sacrifice any semblance our program's moral credibility on the altar of winning. That's just reflexive overreaction, but it saddens me.

Did John Calipari and Kentucky commit a violation in recruitment of Trey Lyles? // CollegeBasketballTalk

No. Next question.

Billy Gillispie ordered to stay in "stress-free" environment // John Clay's Sidelines

Offered without comment.

Kentucky Sports Report // A basketball practice report already?

Nice job here. I think we're going to be good. No, I know we are.

Kentucky Sports Report // Dupree, Smith support Joker, say losing is not his fault

We can blame Phillips for many things, but executing is the job of the athletes, and they failed to execute on Saturday. But neither fans nor players should give up on this season, even though the deck is stacked against the Wildcats.

Congrats to the Vols. Cuonzo Martin continues to impress.

Willie Taggart approves of this apparel // John Clay's Sidelines

Well, they deserve to brag a little.

Kentucky Offers Lee; Cal, Brown to Visit Roberson // ZagsBlog.com

Kentucky head coach John Calipari offered a scholarship to 6-foot-9 forward Marcus Lee during the home visit Sunday night and Calipari will meet Tuesday with forward Tyler Roberson in New Jersey.
