Just a quick note to mention a first class kid who has decided to leave the UK team because of repeated back issues. Sam Simpson was a heavily recruited Henry Clay (Lex.) product who spent his time at Kentucky as a backup Center and was listed at second string at that position (behind stalwart Matt Smith) coming out of the spring. Normally, I wouldn't mention a backup leaving the team, but I have a soft spot for Simpson, who umpired many a T-Ball game for my son and whose family are staples around youth sports in Lexington. Just a real good guy who you'd never guess was a big shot four-star recruit by the way he conducted himself around the kids and families out at Ecton Park when he was a high schooler.
Simpson will reportedly remain with the team as a student-assistant. He could be on his way to following his Dad, Henry Clay Coach Sam Simpson (and brother, Salin, also on the Devil staff) into coaching. However it shakes out, I'm sorry that his career didn't work out how he might have hoped and really wish him the best.
