March Madness Brackets: Wanna Know the Odds?

You might think that since so many people fill the brackets out every year for office pools, on-line contests and such, all those filled-out brackets would yield one or two or perhaps even more perfect brackets per year.

You would be wrong.

Check out the graphic on the other side of the jump for details as to why this ritual we do every single year around this time is far more difficult than it seems. The graphic also contains some insights into how to pick perfect brackets (for future reference -- it's too late now, anyway). These things are interesting mainly for the sake of trivia, but you'll never know when someone will has you how often a #1 seed makes it to the Final Four, or how often #9 seeds win in the second round, or which seed produces the best statistical chance of an upset. Enjoy!
