Johnny Manziel of the Texas A&M Aggies became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy last night. Congratulations to him, and to the other finalists, Manti Te'o of Notre Dame and Collin Klein of Kansas St.
Tweet of the Morning:
Neal Brown is expected to be in Lexington today. We should know whether he will be the Offensive Coordinator by tomorrow.

That's good news. Hopefully he takes the job, this search for an OC is taking longer than for the head coach.

Kentucky football coaching hires surrounded by more hoopla these days // Kentucky.com
When Mark Stoops was announced as Kentucky's next head football coach on Sunday, there was a huge celebration at the Nutter Field House, which university officials report cost around $40,000.
One wonders if that isn't a touch excessive. Still, given the state of UK football, perhaps a little excess was in order. -
Tommy Tuberville’s exit and Neal Brown | John Clay's Sidelines
Not that Tuberville’s exit from Lubbock is a surprise. (I can hear the Dixie Chicks singing "Lubbock or Leave It" now.) There have been rumblings that the veteran coach had grown unhappy in that part of Texas and was looking to leave. His name kept getting mentioned around the periphery of the UK search that ended up with Mark Stoops as coach.
He must've been pretty unhappy to leave a Big 12 school for a Big East program with an uncertain fate. - Mark Stoops may help FSU in Orange Bowl preparation // SB Nation Tampa Bay

John Clay: 'Camp Cal' is a workout for Kentucky's coach, too // Kentucky.com
The out-of-shape thing from Tuesday night, it was a trumped-up means toward a true end. This Kentucky basketball team isn't out of shape. Not physically. Camp Cal isn't fat camp. It's brain camp. And Cal's brain tells him his team is soft and green and in need of a friendly shove and a loving scream, or two.
Make no mistake, that's exactly what this team needs. -
UK basketball notes: Nerlens Noel says knee problems aren't serious // Kentucky.com
Hmm. That tendinitis will bear watching. It may not be "serious," but it can have a negative impact on some players. Not everyone can just ignore that discomfort. -

Julius Mays believes Kentucky has taken step forward in commitment to winning // vaughtsviews
We'll see. I was impressed by Mays' leadership yesterday, even if he had a poor shooting day. -

For all of us who complained about the schedule (and I was among them), perhaps Calipari knew more about what he was doing than we gave him credit for.

Hardwood Hype // On DeMarcus Cousins - An Aggressive Extrapolation
Thing is, he’s trying. DeMarcus Cousins is growing up, clearly making a conscious effort to control his emotions, while remaining an emotional player. This progress is a sign that the immaturity that’s plagued him is not only not a terminal condition, but with age and sufficient experience, could fade rather quickly into the rearview. Remember this guy?

Whistle-blower in UK research-fraud case: 'The system is badly broken' // Education | Kentucky.com
Without admitting guilt, Smart entered an agreement with the federal authorities to exclude himself from any federally funded scientific activity for seven years. Currently, he's a chemistry teacher at Bourbon County High School. He received his teaching degree and started in 2011, when he was on suspension at UK because of the investigations.
Scandalous. There should have been more consequences for his fraudulent behavior than this.
