Randall Cobb got selected as the last pick in the 2011 NFL Draft's second round last night, and wonder of wonders, he went to the NFL champion Green Bay Packers. There are a ton of stories about that in today's linkapalooza, as well as some news about NCAA basketball that Kentucky Wildcats fans so crave.
No rain for 24 hours. What a novel weather pattern we have around here. Now, for the news:

Former Louisville player Brandon Bender has ties to Ken Caldwell - ESPN
Interesting. Enes Kanter? Sounds like Bender was just puffing there. This is the kind of guy that the NCAA ought to put off limits for schools.

Cat Scratches on Randall Cobb's draft day
"I think he was one of the MVP's of college football," Kiper said. "The job he did at Kentucky, he did it all. He was a one-man show in a lot of those games and you talk about versatility, he may be one of the most versatile players to come into the NFL in years."
Cobb has been remarkably underrated in a lot of ways as an NFL prospect. I think the Packers got him at a bargain.

NBA has power to negate college coaches' greed - CBSSports.com
I have already opined that this isn't as much about "coaches' greed" as about the NCAA throwing as many sticks in the way of early draft entry as they can. The NBA is not going to try to make that any easier, as from a management standpoint, it doesn't auger to their best interests.
The NBPA, of course, could try to force a move like this, but frankly, I think it would rank low on their list of priorities. They are already seriously talking about reducing the rookie salaries, and their biggest focus is on protecting the financial interests of players already in the league, not those that have not yet arrived.
Matt is right that this won't happen. Neither the NCAA or the NBA front office wants it to.
