As we creep ever closer to the tip off of the SEC tournament in Atlanta, the sports news is flying thick and fast. Jim Tressel is in trouble at Ohio State. John Calipari is profiled in a largely positive way by Sports Illustrated. Recruits are being recruited and everyone is wondering if the Kentucky Wildcats have finally found the focus that will lead them to a deep March run. All that and more is just below:

It's personal: Liggins relishes chance to shut down nation's best :: Cat Scratches
"I think Chris Warren got the best of me," Liggins said. "I'm prepared. If I had the chance to play (Connecticut's) Kemba Walker and the guys that beat us (again), it would be different."
What a player this guy has turned into! My God, it's as if he's been possessed by the spirit of Michael Jordan, or somebody. His competitiveness is just off the charts.
Great job by Eric Lindsey.

"I don't know their games but I'm ready for anything that comes our way," Gilchrist said.
He added that he didn't think he -- or his teammates -- could be stopped. "Me? No," Gilchrist said. "Us, no. All of us, nah. Ain't nobody stopping St. Pat's."Great read by Adam Zagoria, and if this doesn't whet your appetite as a UK fan, well, check your pulse.

After sending seven teams combined to the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons, the SEC heads to Atlanta for its end-of-season tournament with six teams in the running for invitations.
It's good to see this league competitive nationally again. The last couple of years have just ... well, sucked, for lack of a better word.

Having fun is the secret to UK's post-season success, Calipari says :: Lexington Herald-Leader
"I'm going to talk to them today about winning in the post-season," he said Tuesday. "My best teams, what we drove them with and what they thought about ... you've got to have more fun than everybody else. And you really have to stay in the moment."
I think this is right.

Inside SI: S.L. Price - Video - SI.com
The bombshell here is that Sandy Bell told Scott price that the NCAA said that there was no way they would have known about what happened with Marcus Camby at UMass if Calipari had not pushed him to come forward and be open about it.
This interview is even more revealing than the article in some ways. I suppose I feel so good about it because I have spent so much time making the same points without all the great info Price was able to glean from his sources.
Anyone who holds the opinion that Calipari did something wrong at UMass must now admit their error or be considered irrational.

Also important to note is that two of those neutral wins include top 25 teams, namely a 14-point win over a Big East powerhouse in No. 4 Notre Dame.
Well, now let's be honest about that Notre Dame game -- calling it "neutral" is not fair to either team. That was a semi-home game as it took place in Freedom Hall in Louisville to a sold-out crowd of 98% Wildcat fans. That's not a neutral court experience.

Eric Crawford : Dream game: What if Louisville and Kentucky met again? :: courier-journal.com
As a whole, U of L has improved more over the course of the season than UK has. In fact, it got a bit better over the course of the UK game. One of the Cardinals' problems that day was that they hadn't faced enough good teams yet. They looked out of their element in the first half — and that's not the first time that has happened to them against the Wildcats.
I don't think this is correct. Louisville is playing the same way now as they did against us, and with the same personnel. The thing is, and this is what Crawford does not understand, is that Louisville does not match up well at all against Kentucky. Those matchups have not changed.
Both teams are better, but if they meet again, the result will be the same.

Jesus jumping jiminy jumprat jackoff, you could not have a worse press conference than Tressel had, nor a worse presenter for what was already a nuanced argument for why he did what he did.
Exactly right. Man, that press conference was hard to watch, and I was pulling for Tressel.
